Justin Starts Intern Year at NY Long Island Ob/Gyn Residency program

Dr. Justin Gimoto’s journey from Guam to becoming a Physician has always been driven by a commitment to give back to his community. Born and raised on Guam, Justin witnessed the healthcare challenges faced by many residents and felt a strong desire to help.

"Growing up here, I saw the gaps in healthcare and knew I wanted to make a difference," Gimoto said. His passion for healthcare began during his time at Harvest Christian Academy, where he graduated highschool, when he participated in various community service projects focused on health awareness. These early experiences ignited his interest in medicine and set him on a path to becoming a healthcare provider.

Justin's academic journey took him far from Guam, but his heart remained committed to his roots. He pursued his undergraduate studies at New York University, where he excelled academically and further explored his passion for medicine. After completing his undergraduate degree, Justin continued his medical education at New York Medical College. "I knew I wanted to specialize in a field that would allow me to have a direct impact on people's lives, particularly in underserved communities," he mentioned.

Currently, Justin is beginning his first year as an OB/GYN resident at New York University Langone Hospital in Long Island. "My residency is providing me with comprehensive training and hands-on experience in women’s health," he said.

Throughout his journey, Justin has remained focused on the healthcare challenges of Guam. He aims to improve access to quality healthcare services, especially for those who have limited resources. "It hasn’t been an easy journey, but my experiences have only strengthened my commitment to helping my community," he said.

When considering a path home, Justin is determined to accumulate as much training as he can to be prepared to deliver the services our island community deserves and desperately needs. “As more local physicians retire, I think it’s important that if I return home, I am well equipped to handle the barriers that our island is uniquely confronted with, both in my practice and in our community.”

Justin hopes to inspire future generations from Guam to pursue their passions and contribute to the island's well-being. "Remember where you come from and let that motivate you to make a positive impact," he advised.

As Justin looks toward the future, he remains hopeful about the possibility of returning to Guam. His journey is a testament to the passion and perseverance that exists within our island’s students.
