Mission
To build a sustainable and robust pre-medical program at the University of Guam that not only prepares students for medical school but also cultivates mentorship, academic excellence, and community-driven healthcare. We envision a continuous cycle of knowledge transfer and support, equipping each generation of students with the tools and guidance needed to excel in career goals.
Vision
To enhance and institutionalize a robust pre-medical support at the University of Guam that fosters student success and advisor engagement. We aim to elevate MCAT performance, increase medical school matriculation, and support student persistence by providing resources and opportunities. Through collaborative projects, we empower passionate pre-medical students and equip biomedical advisors to effectively guide their students.
Our Projects
Meeting with UOG CNAS Admin and Faculty
Meetings are held with the UOG College of Natural and Applied Sciences (CNAS) administration and faculty to discuss strategic ways to enhance the pre-medical program. These meetings focus on addressing the needs of students and faculty, as well as identifying opportunities for program adjustments.
Pre-Medical Starter Pack
Developed a starter pack designed for newly declared biomedical students, containing essential resources such as program requirements, tips for success, shadowing and research opportunities, advising contacts, and MCAT preparation tools. This initiative aims to provide students with a strong foundation and clear guidance from the start of their academic journey.
Gathering Alumni and Current UOG Student Data
Data collection from both alumni and current students is conducted to better understand their experiences, challenges, and perceptions of the pre-medical program. This feedback helps identify areas for improvement and shapes future projects and initiatives to enhance student outcomes.
MCAT Course for Credit
In response to the high cost of MCAT preparation, this project aims to create a MCAT course for credit that would allow UOG students to use scholarship funds to cover MCAT resources. This course is intended to make quality MCAT preparation more accessible to UOG students, ultimately increasing their chances of medical school acceptance.
'Pathway to Healing' Panel
In collaboration with the advising committee, a panel event featuring medical students from Guam was organized to offer insights and advice to current undergraduate students. This event provided a platform for students to learn about the medical school application process, hear personal stories of resilience, and ask questions about the journey to becoming a physician.
